One exciting show that this city loves to put together is the annual Jacksonville Jazz Festival. It’s an awesome multistage event that dominates downtown for a few days with renowned national artists, bringing all the flavors jazz has to offer. Being a jazz lover I decided to design a poster for this year’s event. I submitted it last year and although it didn’t win I thought I’d post about it after the event has passed. I designed it taking inspiration and being mindful of the visual tradition of the great JJF posters of the past, particularly the 1980’s and 1990’s. Back in those days (before Photoshop) mastering the airbrush (in my opinnion and from what I recollect) was a visual artist’s highest achievement. In this poster design, using Photoshop, I looked to revive those visual cues, colors and elements.
