Being from Florida, you get used to hurricane season weather announcements. Luckily, we in north Florida never had a dangerous encounter with one the time I’ve lived here but you see a hurricane like Sandy headed for the northeastern coast of US and the damage it could cause and you quickly think of past events like hurricane Katrina’s devastation. Well, it happened. Sandy touched down and New Jersey and New York coastlines were devastated with heavy winds and record floods.
I thought about a visual that would capture that moment, an iconic city like New York and the floods it has suffered. I remembered the great Milton Glaser’s “I LOVE NEW YORK” logo and thought I would build a poster design off of that iconic image; something simple yet clear in message.
New Yorkers are resilient. They will bounce back.
